Congratulations to Edison High School (EHS) student Gus Weiss, for being selected as a winner of the Emperor Science Award program – an initiative designed to encourage high school students to explore careers in science, specifically cancer research and care, through mentoring opportunities.

To receive this recognition, Gus submitted an original essay on the importance of cancer research and was selected from a pool of nearly 1,200 10th and 11th grade students from across the country who are also passionate about pursuing a career in science. In conjunction with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Genentech, and Novartis, PBS LearningMedia and Stand Up To Cancer chose 100 students to receive this award.

For his hard work, Gus will receive a Google Chromebook, $1,500, and the opportunity to work alongside professionals from the medical field on a multi-week cancer research project. Way to go, future Dr. Weiss!
