Following a revision to Board Policy (BP) 6146.1 (attached right), the district may retroactivity grant a high school diploma to a former Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) student who is:

A) an honorably discharged veteran of World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War who was enrolled in our school district immediately preceding his/her military service and he/she did not receive a diploma because his/her education was interrupted due to this service,
          -or-
B) any veteran who entered the military service of the United States (following the Vietnam War) while he/she was enrolled in our school district in grade 12 and who had completed the first half of the work required for grade 12, but did not receive a diploma because his/her education was interrupted due to this service,
          -or-
C)
a former student who was interned by order of the federal government during World War II and did not receive a diploma because his/her education was interrupted due to this internment.

The District is very eager to talk to individuals that meet the above guidelines, as we wish to award applicable veterans or persons who were federally interned with a much-deserved retroactive diploma.  If the above guidelines apply to you or someone you know, please call or email the District’s Public Information Coordinator at (714) 903-7000 ext. 4226 or agriffiths@hbuhsd.edu.

We look forward to hearing from retroactive diploma candidates!
