On October 10, student athletes from four Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) schools — Edison High School (EHS), Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), Huntington Beach High School (HBHS), and Marina High School (MHS) — joined together to participate in the Sunset League Sportsmanship Conference. The Sunset League also includes Newport Harbor High School and Los Alamitos High School.

During the conference, athletes had the opportunity to hear from speakers that offered a different stories relating to sportsmanship. The lineup included FVHS Principal, Dr. Morgan Smith, CIF Southern Section Commissioner, Rob Wigod, HBUHSD Athletic Director, Jim Perry, former UFC Fighter and trainer, Todd Medina, and former professional soccer player, motivational speaker, and author, Jasmine Hernandez (pictured below).

With each speaker, students could be seen actively listening to the individual’s unique anecdotal stories, insight on sportsmanship, and tips on living a happier and more successful life as an athlete.
