Congratulations to Ocean View High School (OVHS) teacher and coach, Mr. Enrique Najera, for being selected as the 2016 Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) Rookie of the Year!

On the morning of October 11, Interim Superintendent, Dr. Alan Rasmussen, district cabinet members, Ocean View administrators, and fellow staff members surprised Mr. Najera in his classroom.  Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Carolee Ogata, spoke about Mr. Najera’s deservingness of the Rookie of the Year Recognition.

Each year, the Rookie of the Year award is presented to a new district teacher who shows promise, dedication, and goes the extra mile for his or her students. Mr. Najera is a beloved Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) and Career Exploration and Leadership teacher on campus as well as a highly-respected coach of the school’s cross country team.

Mr. Najera is a true Seahawk, as he also attended high school at Ocean View. Congrats, Rookie!

Mr. Najera’s students were just as excited as he was after finding out he was selected as the district’s 2016 Rookie of the Year.

Seen above, Mr. Najera is all smiles with Dr. Courtney Robinson, Ocean View High Principal, after being surprised in his classroom.
