In May 2016, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) launched the One Billion Acts of Kindness initiative aimed at promoting civility, character, and positive school climates. This campaign encourages students, educators, and community members to help in reaching their goal of registering one billion acts of kindness. Since its formal launch, OCDE has recorded over 440,500 acts of kindness.

To support the OCDE’s initiative as a district, there is now a One Billion Acts of Kindness button located on the homepage of the website (www.hbuhsd.edu). If you wish to register an act of kindness, you can do so by clicking the button on the homepage, visiting www.kindness1billion.org directly, or using the hashtag #kindness1billion on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

District administrators have been encouraged and prompted to share this information among their campuses with students, fellow employees, and community members in order to spread kindness throughout the Huntington Beach Union High School District.
