PICTURES: Westminster High welcomes “Year of the Rooster” with traditional concert

On February 2, the Westminster High School (WHS) Vietnamese American Culture Club (VACC) performed its annual Tết concert in celebration of the Lunar New Year that happened on Saturday, January 28.  This date marked the start of the “Year of the Rooster.” During the celebration, students and staff gathered around Abbey Square at lunchtime to observe an elaborate performance complete with traditional song, dance, and fashion.  Tết, short for Tết Nguyen Dán, translates to “the first morning of the first day” and is the Vietnamese version of the Lunar New...

Five Fountain Valley High students win statewide essay writing contest with prestigious award

Congratulations to Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) students (L-R) Nicholas Dinh, Aileen Nguyen, Dianne Bui, Evan Mak, and Theodore Vuong for being selected as winners of a statewide essay contest sponsored by LegiSchools at Sacramento State University. Annually, this contest invites 11th and 12th grade California students to write on a specified topic like this year’s: Should the School Day Start Later?  Only ten winners were selected in the state; five of which are Barons of Fountain Valley High School. Marina High School identifies Toby Hess as new head baseball coach

The Marina High School (MHS) Vikings are excited to announce the hiring of their new varsity head baseball coach, Toby Hess. With decades of coaching experience, Coach Hess comes to Marina after most recently serving ten years as Long Beach Polytechnic High School’s head baseball coach. “We are very excited that Toby Hess will be taking over our baseball program.
