On March 9, Knott’s Berry Farm hosted their annual Physics Day, an all-day event complete with workshops and activities in order to educate students about physics concepts in a fun learning environment. After weeks of preparation and building, Coast High School (CHS) was awarded 2nd place for “Best Roller Coaster” by Dr. Snoopy.
In addition to Coast students, the day included participants from schools all around the state. The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) had a strong presence with Coast, Fountain Valley (FVHS), Ocean View (OVHS), Westminster (WHS), and Valley Vista (VVHS) students and teachers all in attendance.
The day’s first activity, the paper tower challenge, was led by HBUHSD teachers (pictured below L-R) Jeff Larson (FVHS), Kim Gonzalez (WHS), Cathy Uzzi (WHS), Eric Brothwell (WHS) and Board of Trustees member, Kathleen Iverson (not pictured). In this challenge, groups of students were tasked with creating the tallest possible tower structure out of one sheet of paper and tape.
Students also participated in various educational competitions and activities such as a rubber band car race, a paper airplane accuracy challenge, a scavenger hunt, and much more.
