From a list of hundreds of nominees, four Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) seniors have been identified as Top 10 Artists in the categories of dance, film, and vocal music – Adam Blanchard, Brian Golden, Melanie Martinez-Fox, and Adrian Villegas (pictured above, left to right).

Each year, a panel of teachers works to identify top Orange County student artists based on applications, performance videos, and artistic résumés in six categories – theater, dance, instrumental music, vocal music, film, 2D visual art and 3D visual art.

Adam Blanchard is a senior at Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) and a four-year participant in the district’s magnet program, the HB Academy for the Performing Arts (APA).  Adam was selected as a Top 10 Artist in dance for his work in contemporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip-hop, Broadway, and choreography.

Also being recognized in the dance category is Brian Golden, a senior at Huntington Beach High School and a four-year participant in the HB Academy for the Performing Arts.  Brian was selected for his skills and ability in contemporary, modern, lyrical, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and choreography.

In the category of film, OC Varsity Arts has identified Melanie Martinez-Fox, a senior at Edison High School, as a Top 10 Artist for her work with producing and cinematography.  Melanie is a key asset to the school’s Digital Media Arts program.

Lastly, Adrian Villegas is a senior at Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) and a four-year participant in the HB Academy for the Performing Arts.  OC Varsity Arts selected Adrian as a Top 10 Artist in the category of vocal music for his work in classical, musical theater, jazz, and pop/rock/folk.

Now that the Top 10 Artists are identified in each category, OCVarsity Arts will work to further to identify one student from each of the seven categories to be named 2017 Artist of the Year on Thursday, April 20.
