Huntington Beach High School language arts teacher, Claire Main, has been selected as the 2017 Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) Rookie of the Year!

The Rookie of the Year Award, a tradition since the 1970s, is given to a new district teacher who shows promise, dedication and goes the extra mile for their students.

Superintendent, Dr. Clint Harwick, Huntington Beach High School Principal, Daniel Morris, along with his team and other HBUHSD personnel surprised Mrs. Main during class with flowers and treats for the students.

“There are few teachers that I have seen in my 26 years of teaching who are naturals in front of the classroom,” said Mark Kama, language arts department coordinator.

From day one, Mrs. Main immediately established herself as a compassionate teacher dedicated to helping her students succeed in class and life.

“She possesses the empathy, charisma, dedication and passion of a super-star. Her classroom is a comfortable place of refuge for students who need help with homework, questions about assignments, and even convivial conversations about her other passion, playing hockey and her favorite team, the Anaheim Ducks.” added Kamai.

Mrs. Main was also recognized by the Superintendent, Board of Trustees and others at the October 10, 2017 Board meeting.
