Congratulations to Edison High School (EHS) student Gus Weiss, for being selected as a winner of the Emperor Science Award program – an initiative designed to encourage high school students to explore careers in science, specifically cancer research and care, through mentoring opportunities. To receive this recognition, Gus submitted an original essay on the importance of cancer research and was selected from a pool of nearly 1,200 10th and 11th grade students from across the country who are also passionate about pursuing a career in science. Of the 391 Orange County nominees, the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) is proud to have a total of 32 students represented with at least three in each category on the prestigious list. In order to receive this recognition, students had to submit videos of performances, samples of art, and answer a series of questions about their passion for the arts and the influence it has on their lives. Girls Inc. awards two Ocean View High School seniors with $5,000 scholarships

On Feb. 12, Ocean View High School (OVHS) seniors, Laura Chavez and Vanessa Moran were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship from Girls Inc., a program that exists to educate girls in being strong, smart, and bold individuals. The organization offers classes meant to empower women in subjects such as math, science, safe-dating, health, sports participation and much more. Out of 115 applicants, just five girls were selected for the $5,000 award – two of which were OVHS Seahawks, Laura and Vanessa.
