On Jan. 25, the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) took advantage of the non-student day and participated in the 27th Annual Professional Development Day.
Early in the morning, classified employees met at Ocean View High School (OVHS) to be welcomed by Board of Trustees President, Duane Dishno, Personnel Commission Chairperson, Ms. Bonnie Bruce, and keynote speaker, U.S. Navy Seal and Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) alumnus, Chad Williams.
Williams shared many stories about his road to becoming and serving as a U.S. Navy Seal – an accomplishment not many achieve. Throughout his speech, he circled back to the key points of leadership, communication, and safety and how these themes relate to staff members in the HBUHSD.
Following the welcome, staff members dispersed into professional development classes such as Google Forms, Conflict Resolution, CPR, Living Healthy on a Budget and many more. Each of these classes featured presenters who have an in-depth understanding of the topic being offered – many of which were internal employees of the district.
The classes concluded in the early afternoon and left staff members rejuvenated and eager to utilize their new skills with the start of the second semester.
