Over the weekend, Marina High School’s (MHS) Academic WorldQuest teams, both coached by Earl Ziemann, placed first and second in Orange County. Academic WorldQuest is a program of the World Affairs Council of America and is designed to test high school students’ knowledge of global issues and global policy.
For months, the students have studied an extensive 17-page packet covering competition topics such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), International Trade and Finance, the Arctic, Food Security, and much more.
In late April, the winning team (pictured, top) will travel to Washington, D.C. to compete at the National Competition against other high schoolers from around the country. Their names are (L-R): Catherine Le (12), Robert Koepp (12), Colin Hines (12), and Philip Phan (12).
Second place team (L-R): Joseph Nguyen (12), Jasmine Le (12), Catthi Ly (11), Vanessa Le (11) – (pictured, bottom)
