To kick off the month of November, Ocean View High School (OVHS) held a two-day college readiness event as a part of the American College Application Campaign (ACAC).  This campaign is a national effort to increase the number of students pursuing a college degree or other high education credential.  Ocean View High School was selected by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) as just one of three schools to pilot the program.

On November 2 and 3, each and every OVHS senior was instructed to go to the school’s Business Academy (BA) computer lab in order to submit an application for at least one college or university.  Fellow students gathered around to cheer on the seniors as they took steps towards the lab and a higher education.

In preparation for the event, OVHS Administrators, Guidance Staff, AVID Coordinators, and many more worked hard to prepare seniors for applications, review transcripts, determine school eligibility, and study application processes.  Local college representatives were also on sight to walk students through the complex process of applying for various schools and financial aid.  As an added support, OVHS teacher, Chris Dornbush, raised roughly $2,000 to help students pay for application fees.

After students finished, they were able to sign a large “I Applied” poster, take a selfie in front of the college wall, and enjoy a donut.  Excitement, relief, and an extra sense of college-ready confidence could be seen on the faces of all the senior Seahawks.
