The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) has been selected to be a featured story by Apple Incorporated. Apple will document APA’s “Playlist 2019” show, which debuts in the Huntington Beach Union High School District Auditorium on Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.

APA’s Music Media and Entertainment Technology (MMET) department’s “Playlist 2019” will be honored by being a featured story on Apple’s website and publications. The coverage by Apple’s public relations department will be complete with photos from the show and interviews with MMET staff and students.

Jamie Knight, former MMET department chair and guest director of the show, was asked by Apple to propose a project that he thought modernized traditional music education. “I suggested [Apple] highlight ‘Playlist 2019’ since it covers an entirely student driven show and features original songs and media created by the students,” said Jamie Knight.

APA’s MMET department has been a prime example of modern teaching and learning methods for more than a decade. The department offers classes such as “Songwriting and Recording,” “Music Technology,” and “Digital Media Cinema.”
