The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the upcoming consideration of Dr. Clint Harwick as the next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Harwick’s appointment will be included as an action item on the agenda at the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Tuesday, November 15.
“The Board is very pleased and excited about working with Dr. Harwick as Superintendent,” stated Board of Trustees President, Dr. Duane Dishno.
Since 2010, Dr. Harwick has served as the Superintendent of Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) located in South Orange County. Prior to SVUSD, Dr. Harwick was also the Superintendent of both Charter Oak Unified School District and Rim of the World Unified School District. In addition, Dr. Harwick previously held several positions at Claremont Unified School District such as Director of Classified Personnel, Director of Alternative Education, Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Activities Director, high school teacher, and baseball coach.
Having spent the last 28 years immersed in education, Dr. Harwick shared, “I have come to appreciate the important attributes that a strong educational system can offer a community. From partnerships with law enforcement, city officials, county representatives, chamber of commerce members, and local non-profits to the day-to-day efforts of teachers, classified staff, and dedicated administrators, I am convinced well run schools make a difference for individuals and society. My aspiration is to bring my experience in fostering positive relationships that improve student performance to the Huntington Beach Union High School District.”
A lifelong-learner himself, Dr. Harwick earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands and both his Master’s and Doctorate from Azusa Pacific University. He and his wife Lisa are residents of Newport Beach and have two sons.
“I am honored and humbled to join the Huntington Beach Union High School District team. I look forward to taking the next few months getting to know the students, teachers, staff, administrators, and community that make the district so admirable,” Dr. Harwick stated.
Pending Board approval, Dr. Harwick’s start date will be January 1, 2017.
