Eighty-seven of the finest student musicians from the Huntington Beach Union High School District’s (HBUHSD) six comprehensive high schools have combined to form the 31st District Honor Band.
On February 9, following a month-long audition and rehearsal process, the musicians assembled on the historic HBUHSD Auditorium stage to perform the band’s free annual concert. Under the leadership of guest conductor, Dr. Leo Sakomoto of California State University, Bakersfield, the show featured a medley of skillful music pieces including “National Emblem” by Edwin E. Bagley, “Olympiada” by Samuel R. Hazo, and more.
The band consisted of an array of students from each school including nine Edison Chargers, 16 Fountain Valley Barons, 32 Huntington Beach Oilers, 15 Marina Vikings, eight Ocean View Seahawks, and seven Westminster Lions. See a full list of honor band students below.
